My Story
I'm a seasoned mining expert, with two decades senior advisory experience – most often as team lead - in over 25 countries and across over 70 projects and programmes in Europe, Africa, Central and Southeast Asia, South America, and Oceania.
Recent projects have focused on the energy transition and the governance of critical minerals. I led a team that supported the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) prepare its next 5-year mining sector strategy, with a heavy focus on decarbonisation and green mining. Most recently, I have been supporting the establishment of a Presidential Delivery Unit in Zambia with a focus on critical mineral exploration and the electric vehicle battery value chain.
After completing his PhD in 1998, I started my career working in a senior management position for London-based digital strategy companies, providing advice to blue chip clients across financial services, the automotive and travel sectors and managing a team of content developers.
In 2003, I was hired to be the Technical Advisor/Team Lead on the €12m European Commission funded Economic Management Capacity Building Programme (EMCAP) programme, based in Abuja, Nigeria. I shifted focus to the extractives sector in 2007, becoming Technical Advisor for DFID’s support to the Nigerian Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).
I've advised on mining sector policy, legal and regulatory frameworks in Kenya, Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea – being sole author of the latter’s transparency policy. In 2022, I prepared an ESG due diligence audit of a privately held copper mine in Zambia using the Responsible Mining Index framework.
